I am buying a 2004 190 Nantucket and was wondering if I should have a platform and ladder installed or use a potable ladder. Any experiences? The boat doesnt currently have this and I was wondering if it was a good idea? Does anyone have problems with it pulling out after time or damaging the hull? I am buying the boat from a whaler dealer and would have them install it.

I have been using a portable ladder and it works fine. (99% used by my kids and their friends, not adults.) I have no doubts that a permanently installed platform and ladder would be a better option. That project has not reached the top of my to do list. If you snoop around the personal pages of this site, you will see a lot of great permanently installed platforms. They can be quite beautiful and I assume function well. My suggestion would be to go ahead and have the dealer install one for you if your budget allows. Since you are dealing with a Whaler dealer, they should know the exact unit your boat requires. Good luck and welcome to Whaler Central. Thank you very much, sounds like good advise. This will be my first whaler, but I have been on them many times fishing with buddies. I pick her up THIS WEDNESDAY..... i AM SO PUMPED ITS CRAZY....

If you do alot of swimming, snorkeling or diving from your boat a swim platform is a very useful device, and it doesn`t take up storage room inside the boat. Also something else that is important is if you are alone in the boat and happen to fall overboard, you have a way to get back aboard, instead up trying to climb up the lower unit of the outboard which you may or may not be able to do, depending on your athletic ability. A swim ladder inside the boat won`t do you any good.

I spoke to the dealership and they said its best to have it done at the factory where it can be thru bolted before the two layers are put together, Has anyone had this done afterwards like I am considering, please help I need to make a decision asap. Thanks

I put one on my Seaking. I was able to through bolt the top screws and 5200 the bottom two and it worked well. BG
