what length will I need for a repower on a 13 whaler (late 60's) ? Some say get just enough while others want to have extra to form a loop. Any thoughts or advice? Thanks
correction, I need the length for the shift and throttle cables for a merc 4 stroke on a 1968 whaler 13, thanks, and please let me know as I need to make sure proper cables are shipped.
Should be the same as I said above, just remember throttle and shift probably link to the powerhead on different sides, (throttle usually is longer of the two). And give a little slack for when you turn hard over in either direction. 10 foot should be good, 11 would probably give you slack. I wouldn't go shorter that 10 feet if it was me. The cables are pretty flexible and you can route them easily, so its up to you. Measure the same way just add a bit for the cable on the far side of the motor, and give enough that you can turn hard over either way.
Both the shift and the throttle cable enter the engine on the port side and are the same length. See pic. of my 13 footer. The cables are wrapped together. I`ll try to take a look tomorrow as to the length.
