I noticed on this forum the lack of Dauntless 14 owners, and think I may be the only one. I've had my boat, first one by the way, for over a year now and can't imagine a "larger", more fishable, and easyily trailerable bout out there. I suppose the lack of interest in the 14 was the minor price difference between the 14 and 16 when the model was launched. I guess it makes it a bit of a "classic". Just wanted to know if anyone else had a 14 and their thoughts/modifications, etc? Cheers to all and happy boating.
Just starting to look for a whaler. I will be keeping it in a harbor in Maine, and running it in near and round some coastal islands. I don't plan to fish much, if at all. I will be keeping it on a mooring, and easy accccess is a factor. Also dealing with chop. I think I am between the Dauntless 14 or 15 or possibly a Montauk in the same size. Any thoughts as to: (1) the relative advantages or disadvantages to each, and (11) what to look for when inspecting a Dauntless?
I've owned my 2000 Dauntless 14 for 3 years and I love it. I use it primarily for fishing the back bays in the Virginia Beach area with my 6-year old son. I'm usually alone on the boat ramp and this boat is perfect for that. I've had the boat out on the Chesapeake in December with no problems. It's got an Evinrude 50hp 4-stroke EFI (really a Suzuki DF50). It's a little underpowered, but the reliability is worth the trade-off. I just saw that Yamaha released a 70hp 4-stroke that weighs in at 260 lb - that would be an ideal motor for this boat.
