Thanks to Phil T. and some warmer weather here I pulled the old girl out of the barn. I'll splash within the week ! As far as I'm concerned once I'm upon the boat the season has begun !

Jim, I just love seeing pics of that beauty. I just helped a buddy pick up a 1975 21 Outrage in NY today. I am more than ready although it was 28 degrees when we picked her up.

The season began for me last Sunday, 3/8/09....it was a beautiful day in North Texas. I'm glad everyone is getting the bug to get their boats ready for the spring.

Here in Maine boating season is fast approaching, although snow still hinders the extraction of my whaler.... and before the water I still have a laundry list of projects needing attention.
Having begun a new job at a boatyard/marina my time is gonna be anything but open! Hope to be in by June.
Happy Whalering to those who are in or close to it!

Jim;
It is always a pleasure to see someone first out the gate.
I will admit that ;
I have been forever surprised ;
And this for the last few years;
Upon seeing the first neighbor having put up his Christmas lights decorations;
And this ahead of everybody else.
I wish that I would have been there to witness the event.
What a great excuse for a bit of a "gang"get together.
Let's not forget all of the fun but essential prep works to make your girl;
Good and ready for endless nautical miles...
I know that you have solved the steering wheel backing problem.
From The Very West Coast.
Aft Winds Always.
Dont lie
Dont Cheat
And dont give up.. |

Took the cover off her and installed new batteries yesterday, moved the perko switch to a more accessible location. Wanted to install my new controls this morning but it's raining.. Oh well soon we will be ready.

Took the Whaler out fishing today with my youngins', hooked into about a 5lb largemouth using a rattle trap. Thing jumped off as we brought him to the boat......guess that was "the one that got away".
It was 55 degrees outside, seemed colder on the water. Grateful for the early springtime fishing and boating. It won't be long until we're all out fishing again.

Hey Scrimshaw,
Glad you are getting out a little early. I love the picture and the boat, thats my dream whaler. But I have a question about the FJ. How does it do towing that thing? I am looking to get a new tow vehicle and the FJ is on my list, but I wasn't sure how it did in the hills... Thanks

Bean, the FJ replaces a 2005 Toyota Highlander this year as the "Tow" vehicle. The Highlander towed my 1971 Outrage with ease even for long highway trips. The FJ has only been with me for a couple of months so can't give you any first hand experience yet, thusfar it has proven to be a bear ! The old Outrages are light, basically a surfboard with a motor, doesn't take much to pull it.
