I am considering repowering a classic 13 (late 60s era) with a merc 40hp 4 stroke short shaft. The motor weighs 213lbs. Is this ok? It's a little heavy but it should be ok. I would appreciate your thoughts and thanks
If your transom is in good shape and you move some weight forward you should be ok. I'm more conservative and wouldn't put more than 180lbs on the back of mine. I didn't know there was a 4 stroke with a short shaft available. I put a 2 stroke on mine that weighs 208 lbs. and it sits a bit low sitting and if I stop too quickly I will get water over the transom, but other than that it does great.
