40hp merc 4stroke on a classic 13?

Member Posts: 16 Comments: 1 Joined: 02/23/09	I am considering repowering a classic 13 (late 60s era) with a merc 40hp 4 stroke short shaft. The motor weighs 213lbs. Is this ok? It's a little heavy but it should be ok. I would appreciate your thoughts and thanks

I'm more conservative and wouldn't put more than 180lbs on the back of mine. I put a 2 stroke on mine that weighs 208 lbs. and it sits a bit low sitting and if I stop too quickly I will get water over the transom, but other than that it does great. Mike
