I deleted the first post which set the tone for the day. Opps.
With a few feet of snow still on the ground, two warm days have melted the snow around the trailer and at the ramp.
Since it is too early for courtesy floats at the ramp, my nephew volunteered to come along for a 3 hr ride on the Bay.
Despite getting everything ready on Saturday, at launch today, the battery died when attempting to start the engine to back off the trailer. With it being at least 5 years old, maybe more, we hauled out and drove (with the boat) to NAPA. All good and ready to launch.
Temps - 38-42
Wind N 15-20 backing to NW 5-10
Seas 3-5 becoming 1-3
WOT ~ 42 mph (man that is cold)
While the average sea state on any given day is snotty, the gods were with us and the water was calm, especially in the lee of the wind around a few of the islands.
Normally the bay is a sea of lobster buoys but at this time of the year there are none. The only hazard was an occasional ice flow lifted off the shore by the 9' tide.
To see a few great photos of Casco Bay I took today, click on my name, select my webpage and select the 2009 album.
Phil, I took a look at your 2009 photo album and they were great! You sure have a nice looking boat and have pretty big kahona's for going out in those cold temps. Lol.
