I've just restored a 1970 Boston Whaler with a 40hp. Yamaha on it. The NSDA does not cover this year that I can find. I've got about $5000 in this boat and the Insurace Co only wants to insure it for $1500. I'm trying to find a reasonable marine survey or a way to document this myself. Is my classification an antique and do you know what I need to do to find out values so that I can submitt it to the insurance company. I am located in South East Florida. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Allstate seems to have great coverage on boats. I'd give them a call.

I have insured all of my Whalers through Larry Goltz's agency who goes by LHG on CW and Finnegan here. His son Larry is actually my agent. The boat is insured through Safeco for the boat's fair market value and not the nonreality based NADA value. To do this I have had to provide a detailed list of equipment on the boat and an itemized list of values, a general write up on the motor and motor's condition and their values, a detailed outline of work recently performed on the boat or motor, and images help as well. So long as everything is in line with what would fit a fair market value, the policy will be able to underwritten and your boat will be insured. He can write policies in I believe all 50 States so contact him via PM or I can send you His sons contact. The prices for their policy are very reasonable and when I had to file a claim, Safeco was very good to work with. Happy all around.

PM me if you need contact info

For an upcharge, ,most insurance carriers will allow youtodeclare a value on your boat. I have mine with State Farm

Boat US may be high for a small boat, but my last two large sailboats were insured for an agreed hull value far in excess of the "Buc Book" because of the work the work I had put into them and the value of the improvements. It's a pretty common practice for marine underwriters.

I have my restored and modified 13 footer insured with State Farm. Its added on to my homestead policy. They insured it for the amount I asked for, no questions asked. They sent a person out to take pictures. It was inexpensive too.
