Just a note:

The Gasloline around here (and I'm sure the rest of the U.S.) is really of poor quality, probably the worst it has ever been. Many outboards are being serviced for poor fuel related problems, I contacted "EVINRUDE" about this and they strongly suggest using the "CARBON GUARD" fuel additive all the time now. It's not too expensive, and 1 oz. treats 8 gallons of gas, just figured that I'd pass this along.

Thanks for the info! What type of symptoms are people seeing related to the "poor quality" fuel?

Poor fuel conists of things like water, and alcohol, as well as other impurity's making it harder to burn. This results in carbon build up on the pistons and cylinders (not good). A small amt. of fuel in a test tube or small jar, will settle out over a day or two, and you can actually see the water, fuel, and alcohol seperate into 3 layers. Now you go out on the boat, everythings fine for a while, you bang a few wakes to get the mixure moving, then your pulling up water, alcohol, etc. resulting in engine failure (remember water is not compressable, and it does not help combustion). The "Carbon Guard" should be used to minumize hot spots on the cylinders, and pistons, as well as keeping your outboard running clean. It is also recommended if you "Putt putt" around a lot like I do with mrs "mw" and Junior. This info. was obtained from "Outboard Marine service" of Freeport, NY, a factory authorized Evinrude dealer, and shop. They've been established a long time, and are considered a very reliable shop. The "Carbon Guard" is cheap insurance if you ask me. Hope this helps !
