I am thinking of replacing my Evinrude 1990 48 SPL with a rebuilt 1990 Johnson 70. This is on a 1989 Sport 15. Both of these are 2 stroke. Does anyone know what kind of fuel economy I can expect with this 70 hp assuming standard configuration. I currently get on average about 5-7 miles per gallon, depending on load with the 48.
Thanks
Gary
It of course will depend on your running habits, but actually you may get a little better with the larger motor in that you will be a half throttle most of the time instead of full throttle with the smaller motor
I had that engine on my sport 15 '87 48 spl, I loved that motor, I would have bought another one if I could have. No power tilt, no oil injection, nothing to break. Just a good, well running "No-frill's" 50 hp motor ! I got rid of it a few years ago due to it's age, it was still running, they tell me it's still running now, 22 years later.
