Hello. I've got a 1998 Montauk 17. I will be adding a trolling motor to the bow. My question is this:
How should I attach the mount to the boat? It has a "lip" that would allow me to "through - bolt" a bolt from the underside of the bow, through the "lip" and onto the deck. This lip is only about 3/4 of an inch wide. Any other mount on the deck would not allow me to "through - bolt" from one side to the other, only allowing for lag bolts into the wood supporting the front deck steps (yes there is wood there, if you move far enough from the edge).
Those of you who have done this trolling motor mounting, can you give me an tips?
i seen a artacle a while a go thay put a piece of star board use screws to attach it to the gunnel, thay cut it a little bigger than the base of the unit a attached the throlling motor to the starboard ,i think thay put the starboard there to beef up the area.
