Hi All!
Specific Model we are talking about: 1998 17 Montauk Yes, this is the smirked model.
I have heard lots of opinions on motor weight on the transom, and have heard max weights given for the transom, but I haven't seen a written, formal spec from Boston Whaler.
All I have seen is a max HP rating (100 HP), but, as we all know, a 100HP 4-stroke is typically heavier than a 100HP 2 stroke.
Likely, I have missed it......but, does anyone have a definitive, written, formal spec from BW on the max weight of a 17 Montauk?
In an old whaler brochure from that time period it listed 330 pounds. I have a 1979 montauk with a 90 hp Yamaha 4 stroke weighing at 379. The stern sits a little lower than the 300 pound 90 2 stroke Johnson I had, but there is no cracking or any difference other than a lower stern.
