I have recently found a pristine 88 outrage (cut transom) with 2x115 Mercury 4 strokes. The boat is definetely a good one, little used and original gelcoat still bright. Unfortunately it was re-rigged in 04 with double 20" 115 and I'm little scared about the load of those on the transom. I don't know exactly the weight but I think we are close to 900 lbs.. I know the boat was rated 180hp and 200hp with WD and, at that time, probably was intended to have single 175hp V6 or double 85-90hp V4. The single 2 strokes should be around 430 lbs. and the couple probably something around 600 lbs.. The boat seems to be really fast but I don't know anything about the performance on the water. I think it may sit too low on the transom and maybe porpoising will be even worse. Any suggestion? Rgrds, Dan
The Mercury 75, 90 and 115 all weigh the same at 399 pounds. http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...ticle_id=5
That's 800 pounds on the transom not including 2 batteries or anything else that might be in the stern.
Those engines do seem quite heavy for the transom but I can understand why the prior owner chose the 115 because they weighed the same as the smaller models.
Maybe someone else here can give you some more info.
