Hey guys:

I spent 18 hours over the weekend scraping and peeling a bad paint job on the bottom of my newly purchased '81
montauk.

The restoration has been very enjoyable and gratifying, however, I could feel the results in my hands and arms. That is quite a job. It took 4 cans of oven cleaner, 1 gallon of some stripper from West Marine, a gallon of Goof Off, 35 rags, a putty knife and flat head screwdriver. I was whipped when Sunday evening rolled around.

I removed the decals on the sides of the boat for polishing and waxing purposes. They were beat up and looked bad. I had a detailer bring the boat back to a shine. I figured I deserved a break. He did a great job and now I'm ready to get replacement decals. The previous decals looked like they were added after the fact. They just seemed oversized. I see a great deal of offers for Whaler decals on ebay, but they come in different sizes. Can anyone tell me the correct size of the factory decals that came on the Montauks?

By the way, just a little funny note. My wife was upset with my stained blue hands from the weekend of stripping. I said it was worth it, but she disagreed. I was treated Sunday night to having my wife attempt to clean my hands with some type of voodoo woman hand cleaner goop. To me, it felt like wet dirt mixed with coconut soap. In the end I am left with my hands still being blue and a now even deeper confusion of women and their beauty rituals.

Get in touch with Janis at Magic Brush. See the rolling banner in the upper right side of the page where it says "Visit our Sponsers" She was very helpful in getting decals worked out for me.
I am going to order another set of CF#'s from her, the first pair turned out great. They really looked great with the slant going towards the stern.
