I'm planning on removing the deck seam silicone from my 18 Outrage tomorrow. The previous owner used clear silicone. Do I just use a razor in the seams and try to pull it off?

I know this has been covered before. I tried searching for the answer without success.

Thank you.

West Marine and probably other places sell a tool to remove the caulking or sealant. This same tool allows you to put a nice bead of caulking or sealant on.

Rather than post an image hosted on another site, see this link to West's website for one example of the tool:

Dan,
Depends on the caulk. I tried the caulk removal took Phil linked too but I had no luck. What I used was a combination of an old curved carpet knife and a curved grouting tool, I believe. I also used a utility knife to carefully score along the edges and break the caulk's hold on the gelcoat. You can also try to soften up the caulk, DAP makes a caulk gel that will soften older, hardened caulk so it's easier to remove.

My best advice, get a good set of knee pads

What I have used in the past, is a piece of Plexiglas(s/p) I put a 45° angle on it. kinda like a chisel. The plastic is somewhat forgiving and seems not to gouge the fiberglass.
