I am looking at a 2006 BRP 250 for my 21 hull. I have heard good things about these outboards if they were built after the BRP buyout of OMC. I was curious how long BRP will continue to supply parts and what were the common parts to fail on these engines? I heard they were even a little better on fuel and had more power then the Etecs of the same hp. I was told the emm's on these things were very expesnive and prone to problems, any truth to this? Anyone have these motors (brp built only, I know the OMC fichts had problems) and have any reports?

Hey Bob, I have no first hand experience but I can relay what I was told by my local Evinrude dealer when I was looking at a BRP ficht last year. He told me that at the end of the run that had them worked out and he would have no problem recommending buying one. He told me as I am sure you are aware to avoid the pre BRP Fichts. I know this probably isnt the type of help you are looking for but I figured I would share what I know.

No Scott that pretty goes along with everything I have heard. I already have all the OMC system check guages, controls, elec start/remote control kicker motor, so I thought it's easier to stick with a OMC/early BRP engine. I am just looking to get more range out of the 40 gallon belly tank in my 21 and maybe a little more speed too. Grin

Your in the same boat as me so to speak, hard to justify replacing good engine(s) just yet for no real reason.
