Hi,
Does anyone out there have a neat professional method of mounting a bilge pump on a classic Montauk?
I have my pump mounted to the floor of the sump. I don't want to drill holes at all costs.
The problem is with the discharge hose.I have a piece of black rubber hose from the pump tie wrapped to the engine and battery cables up to the splash well. This works but it just doesn't look right. I want to make it look factory but that 3/4" black rubber hose just doesn't belong. Does anyone have a different method of doing this?
I know it is a Whaler and shouldn't need a bilge pump but I like to get out and wade fish and quiet a bit of water collects at the back of the boat from getting in and out.
Pictures would be good.
Thanks

carter samford I don't know if this what you want or not. look at the clear hose with the blue strip. on my personal page. I use my bilge pump all the time, and would not do with out one.

Carter -
I encased all of my wiring harness/fuel line in black bilge tube. I ran a separate sized piece for the hose to the splashwell.
I just added a photo showing it in detail at the bottom of my personal page.

I just ran the hose over the transom (sport 15) and secured with a black plastic pvc hose clamp, bilge pumps are tough to make look pretty, It's like trying to make a toilet look pretty (function has "right of way" over style) We all have to drill a hole in the boat at some time, if properly sealed, it should be no problem.

carter,
Here is a photo of my prior Montauk.
Take a look at the black bilge hose that runs into the splashwell.
My hose was connected to one of the drain tubes so it pumped directly out the back of the transom and not into the splashwell.
Not saying this is the best type of installation but it worked very well for me.

Hi Joe,
I like the way you did yours, you have to look twice to even notice it.
One question, how did you connect the discharge hose to the splashwell drain tube?
Thanks,
Carter

bilge pump hose has a non-flex section about every foot. If you cut the bilge hose at the straight part of the hose, it fits perfectly inside the drain tube without any clamps, glue or any retaining device.

There are white hoses that look a bit better.
White sanitary hose. Costs more, smoother, and will pass more water.
Like you I do not like large holes, I think I would pass it over the transom.
The other option is to run it through the side like the newer ones.
Wherever, I do like to be able to see the discharge.
Good Luck!
