I just bought a 1988 16' Boston Whaler. I put it on a local lake yesterday and could not get the engine at full throttle to go faster then 6.5mph according to my GPS. It seems to idle fine and had no issues at 6.5mph speed. But there seems to be something wrong that the engine is not responding. Any help on this would be much appreciated

I don't know the model of this boat as of yet. There is no Identification. I will post some pics for those with a keen eye to help identify this vessile

sounish,

Are you sure you are getting full throttle from the controls to the engine?
You will have to take the engine cowling off to see if the throttle controls from the boat actually move the throttle lever on the engine.

Please let us know more details.

I will have to check that. But if the throttle linkage moves how do you know if it is actually moving far enough.
Is is safe to attach a H2O hose and power up the motor then put it into forward gear without ruining the engine or gear transfer?

ACK ! NO ! DO NOT PUT IT IN GEAR WITH THE RABBIT EARS ON, AND THE BOAT OUT OF THE WATER, you may carefully put it in gear and IDLE ONLY for a second, to see if the prop spins but THAT'S IT ! not only is this dangerous but, since the prop is out of the water, their is no resistance on it from the water, this will result in "Over revving" the engine turning your pistons and cylinders into "burned toast". DON'T DO IT !

Well all,
It appears that the VOR units internal diaphrams were disinigrated. Also the cards were both gunked up. So new VOR unit and rebuilt carbs were needed.
It's been in the shop since July 25th. So no fishing for me this weekend.
But I hope to have a nice late season here in Norhtern California.

Might look at a re-power next year late season. I can get into more lakes here with a 4 stroke vs 2 stroke anyway.
