Rollers to Bunks

Hello all, I have a 1989 Cox Super Loader roller trailer that came with my 1983 V20 Outrage and I would like to convert it to a bunk style trailer. Does anyone out there have pictures of just their trailer so I can get a better idea of what I'm going to have to do? The reason other than roller trailers are not good for whalers is it is super hard to get the boat on the trailer straight especially when I'm by myself. thanks Patrick

Can you post a photo of the trailer as well? How many cross members does it have, what type of axle?
Are you going for all bunks or a combination of bunk and keel rollers?
Your question is timely. Last weekend, I helped NewportME (on CW) set up a new bunk/keel roller trailer and transfer his Outrage 22wd over. It was fun!

Patrick emailed me this photo.
In his email he provided more info:
..this picture of when I purchased the boat. It has wobble rollers and the keel roller is attached to the circular cross member that each of the wobble rollers is attached to. I hope you can see it in the picture. It has only 2 straight cross members, one in front of and one behind the axel. I was thinking of adding cross members and going the all bunk route...

On both my Montauk and Outrage 17, I have keel rollers and bunks. I think (just 1 opinion) this is the best setup if you trailer and use different pitch ramps. My boats just glide off with a small push from the bow.
As for your trailer, it is hard to see the position of the cross members. It looks like the rear member is just behind the axle (with the cox sticker)? If it is, I think this member or another one needs to be within ~ 6 inches of the end.
I think one in the middle and one 1/2 way from the middle to the bow is appropriate. This will give you good mounting for bunks. I recommend a double roller setup on the rear cross-member.
Here is a photo of the underneath side of my trailer. Remember mine is a Outrage 17, not a 20.

Patrick, Have you seen this thread below? I have difficulty getting it on the trailer straight too when I'm single handed, and have the bunk and roller set up. Give it a read, good loading suggestions by Kamie, should work for your set up too:

Dave, thanks for responding and yes I have seen that thread. I just wanted to get a few Visual ideas on how to go about it. My setup is close to the set up in the picture on that thread except my wobble rollers are connected to a U shaped crossmember that pivots up and down and has a keel roller in the middle. I hope you can see from the above picture. thanks again Patrick

If you're going to convert, I think you'll have to see if you can add cross members. Other option is to double up both keel rollers, and adjust so that most of the weight is on them. If you're still having issues loading straight, there's always the side mount guide bunks you could install. Is there any evidence now of indentations from the rollers?

Dave, I do NOT have any indentations on the bottom of my Whaler. I just want to change the setup because of what I have learned here about the thin skin on whalers and the possibility of indentations. If I'll be able to load the trailer easier that would be a huge bonus. My initial plan is to add galvanized cross members at the rear of the trailer and at different increments along the width of the trailer. I was thinking of a 4 bunk system. I called my local shorelander dealer and they said the trailer I need if bought new would start at $3000.
