I've found a heck of a deal on a new, left over 2007. Fishing package, cushions, radio, trailer and motor. The price is fantastic. My only concern is that its rigged with the 115 4 stroke. I usually have 2-3 adults on board. About 50% of my time on board is towing the kids on the tube. I've looked at the engine charts and their does not seem to be that much different between the 115 and 135.

I'm looking for any 1st hand feedback on how will the 115 performs.

I apologize as I don't have much first-hand experience with the 115 4 stroke on the 190 - I know that it does move fairly well through the water, so its probably not going to be "underpowered" per se, if anything it should be just about right.

if it were me, because this is how i am, "enough" is often a bit short of "me like," so my immediate reaction is to go for the higher power, as 115 to 135 isnt too big a leap price-wise i dont believe, though i do hope if i am wrong i will be promptly corrected.

if it is rigged with the 115 and you decide you want that, then great! if you decide you want to move up to 135, though, you could still take advantage of the great deal and trade in the un-used motor (if i am correct in assuming that by left over from 2007 you mean that it is new/unused) and then be able to get a new 135 on her for little more, or a really late model/low hours and well-maintained 135 for about the same, give or take.

maybe even a 140 or 150?Wink

Thats my 2 cents in the jar. Hope I didn't get too carried away there!

Yes, I'm the proud owner of a 190 Montauk with 115 HP merc. It's a 2007 I bought in September 2008. I could not be happier. I live in Texas, so I've been out in her almost every weekend since September.
I could have bought a 2008 with the 135 HP merc. While money wasn't really a problem, I decided to take the bargain offered with the 2007 model. The performance of the 135 just wasn't that much better in my opinion.
My Montauk is good, not great, out of the hole. She reaches 40 MPH on the GPS pretty darn quick. If you are disappointed with the hole-shot when you get yours, you can always reprop.
The only problem I have with my 190 is this darn grin I can't get off of my face.

Yes, I am currently rigging a 19' "Montauk" (actually a Whaler Guardian commercial product}. So, I plan to be smiling also starting next Cape Cod boating season. I specifically chose to power with a 115 hp. E-tec because it has a more favorable hp. to weight ratio. In fact, I just took delivery of the engine and bolted it onto the transom today. It just looks great: lean and mean. It just isn't this huge chunk of metal silhouette of the equivalent 4-strokes. Of course, the small down side is that now I have to deal with the external oil reservoir, which will probably be taking up some valuable and rather limited water and weatherproof space under a center consule.

I will start posting some pics under my own Thread in the near future when I figure out how to do this.

I do not wish to change the direction of your Thread from engines and power re your 190 Montauks, but I need this opportunity if you 190 Montauk owners could please describe to me how your 12V. wiring gets to the bowlight, and to your center consule!

Thank You for this address. Helpful. I looked at the 190 Montauk wiring harness diagrams; I do not know what all their numbering codes and abbreviations mean, but now I can talk a little more intelligently to Whaler Inc. regarding my questions. I guess I'll pop this whole "fueltank cover" floor off and see what's going on under there...

I chose a center consule today. A fiberglass shop outside Providence will be molding it up over the next 3 weeks or so. VERY modest consule, actually about the size of a Montauk 17! Deliberately so, because I want literally Broadstreet walkaround isles to the front. I do a lot of casting; so, I want a very low consule. If you ask (like my very critical friends ask...) what about protection? My answer: that is what high tech clothing is for.

I think all of us 190 Montauk owners will be interested in how easy the floor comes up. I think it's going to be pretty well caulked with the 'permanent' kind of 3M stuff. If anyone ever repowers, the floor will have to come up to install the new controlls.

I want to cut out, or cut into...the two small covered spaces on each side of the motor well on my "190" bare hull. The boat was delivered with 8" i.d. Bomar locking deckplates cut in from the front. Rather useless access size, and I would have preferred it cut in from the top.

Measuring: I bet I could cut in an 8" x 12" i.d. from either the front (removing the present deckplate), or putting in a similar size from the top.

Do any of your boats use this space i.e. for a battery or an oil reservoir?

I just do not see an appropriate deckplate from any manufacturer (Bomar, Beckson, Rabud, etc.) such as an 11" round or a rectangular smaller than 10" x 20" on the market. Can anybody help me here?
