I just picked up my first Whaler a 1964 Nauset in great shape. It is missing the bow locker hatch. Anyone know where one of these is readily available? I suppose nautical marine could make one eaily enough? Any thoughts?
Does Hull no. Z24748 make any sense?

How do you know it is a 1964 model?

The number you show above does not fit into the sequence. The "Z" is NOT correct and the other numbers do not fit for a 1964 model.
16'/17' HULL SERIAL NUMBERS (prior to 1972)
1961-1962 ......... 3000 thru 3999
1962-1963 ......... 30000 thru 31499
1963 ................. 31500 thru 31600
1964 ................. 31601 thru 33000
1965 ................. 33001 thru 34399
1966 ................. 34400 thru 35800
1967 ................. 35801 thru 37600
1968 ................. 37601 thru 39750
1969 ................. 39751 thru 3A1300
1970 ................. 3A1301 thru 3A4100
1971 ................. 3A4101 thru 3A5200
1972 ................. 3A5201 thru 3A6700

I am getting the numbers from the title. Its indicates a 1964 with those HINs. The stencils are gone since the deck has been re-gelcoated. The Z may have been added by the New Jersey Department of Vehicle service as the numbers begin with NJZ.....

Without the numbers in the boat then we have no idea of what year the hull really is.

The registration seems to have been lost in the past and that is why the NJZ numbers appear rather than the original stencil number.

Doesn't matter that much and it can't be any older than 1961 anyway.

I'm not too concerned. I'll try searching for the stecils at another time. The hull was redone inside and out and the transome is solid. The motor is what looks to be a 1974 Evinrude Hustler.
