Looking to purchase a Whaler for offshore fishing etc. What model/year is the most stable?
It will be used, so don't care about age, just want the best of the best.

Barry, depending on what type of fishing you are going to do, I would think that an Outrage 22+ will be what you are looking for. As far as the year goes, I'm not sure that it matters... they are all Whalers.

Also, be aware that there are plenty of guys out there that do serious offshore fishing out of the 16/17' boats.

Thanks Michael. I was thinking Outrage, and I like the older style, but didn't know if improvements had been made over the years to the newer Outrage models.
Thanks for your input!

An old 25' Outrage is a great offshore boat....in my opinion. I have not fished on a newer one although I am sure they are good as well. I just like the look of the older "smirked" hulls.

Buy an older Outrage for offshore. The newer ones just aren't the same....
If I was going to buy a new offshore center console I'd buy an Edgewater....made by the guys that used to work at BW.

A classic Outrage 21 will be more stable than any of the V-hulled 20, 22 or 25 foot models.
Of course size brings stability as well. A 34' Defiance will be more stable than any Outrage.
What other criteria will you judge the boat by besides stability?

Much depends on what size boat you're interested. If you look at beam to length ratio the Outrage 18 really stands out and was designed for offshore use.

I had a 25 revenge w/a that was a great offshore boat. I would think a 25+ cuddy or cabin would be better than the outrage because of the weight. I currently have a 22 outrage
that I run off-shore but it is not the same ride.

My 1999, 280 Conquest is extremely stable with a 10'6" beam. Carries 300 gallons of fuel to go the distance. I have the "cruise" package which includes a generator, AC/Heat, hot water, fridge and a full head with shower. Sleeps 4 for overnight fishing trips.
We're very happy.

I love my 18 Outrage. But I don't like being out when it gets even a little nasty. I wouldn't want to be offshore if the weather turned. I think you have to investigate the waters where you will be, and what the conditions are. See what people in your area are going out in. If someone in your area has had success in a 25 Outrage, but someone else in an 18 is unhappy, then you have the beginning of an answer.
