Mine are rusted and in pretty sad shape. Not a job I want to tackle. How much should I budget for a trailer shop to do the replacement? It's a Sportsman double axle trailer...

If you are in Houston just call Steelco the builder. They are located in Santa Fe off Hwy 6. I had them do some axle work on mine and they are fast and very affordable. I plan to go down there and have them build me one for the 19 project I am working on. Their website is www.sportsmantrailers.com.

ANY trailer shop will be able to do it.....you shouldn't have a problem.

Fritz,
As to the budget I would think around $300.00. I had mine done on a single axle light weight for a little over a hundred.

You didn`t mention whether your trailer was a single or double axle trailer. Trailer springs are very inexpensive, so are the U bolts and straight bolts that are needed, to do the job. All you need is a jack and jackstand, a sawzall to cut off the old bolts, and a socket wrench. No problem, even with the boat on the trailer.
