alright per the advice here and fear of having a wet hull i go out and drill a 1/4 inch hole in the bottom of my boat i pull out the drill and see golden metal shavings on it. what could these be? i ask myself than i realize that i have unknowingly drilled through both sides of the brass drain tube. now what? did i drill the wrong place?
You may have not lined up the hole properly. The good news is, you'd eventually want to replace your drain tubes anyway with PVC ones. So now you have an excuse to do that now too.

Not to laugh at your misfortune but that is kind of funny. I sounds like one of those stories you read about DIY project gone wrong. I hate when I create work for myself! It is not really a big deal you just went to deep and now have to replace your bottom drain tube.
