I have a 1978 Montauk and a 2001 Evinrude/Suzuki 4 stroke 70. Great combination! Can't hear the motor run. Be sure to put in a water pressure gauge so that you can verify that it is running. Hardly burns any gas. I can't say enough about it. I don't push the throttle, so the 70 is fine for me. If you are a speed demon, you might want a 90 ETec though. I am very happy with the setup.
I recently bought a 1978 15 sport w/ a 55hp Suzuki. I was also concerned about pulling skiers/ wakeboarders so I am in the process of scheduling a complete refit. Afterwards, I'll be repowering with a Yamaha 115hp 2 stroke. I believe she'll then pull just about anything. One of the guys @ the shop where the refit is being done has a 15' he's currently running a Yamaha 130hp w/ a jackplate. He's running right @ 70 mph.
