Can the serial number tell me anything about the model whaler i have. I recently picked up a (i think)1972 hull that has been changed from its original configuration. Currently it is center mounted steering on a bench seat..no console.
Serial number is BWOA11951172. Thanks Gary

Gary,

I do not believe there is anyway to tell what model it was when it left the factory by any of the serial numbers.

The only way that I know of is to contact Boston Whaler.
Chuck Bennett has helped many of us out here in the past. You might start by asking him.

From the last two digits in your numbers above, it does look like a 1972 model.

Gary,

Are you sure you don't have a Center Steer Sport model or Sourpuss?

The Hull Identification Number (HIN) that Gary has provided should be BWCA11951172 indicating the boat was completed in November of 1972. This would make it a 1973 model.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the input. Yes, the Serial number correction you offered is correct..my goof! I think it could have been a Center Steer Sport or Sourpuss at one time! All thats left on the console is one flat mahogony board that the wheel is mounted to and one mahogony strip to sit on. No seat back supports however it does have the side rails like a Sourpuss. The throttle is mounted to the gunnel. Was it ever on the console in a Sourpuss? I would love to put it back together as original as i can. Gary
