Without an existing cable to go by, do any other 15 sport owners have lengths and pictures of your steering cable routing? I'd like to order the Teleflex NFB 4.2 from WM but don't want to have to return it if I can see what a particular lengths looks like. My goal is to get the cables off to the side and out of the way.

Thanks.

I'll take some pics and measure for you tomorrow. Mine runs out of the side of the consol and then down the side rails.

KeyRat,

I am restoring a 1982 Sport now. I am looking for a new teleflex steering cable. Your 15' had a 10'5" cable. Teleflex only makes even foot lenght cables now. I am taking my cable to a parts dealer who is willing to pull new cables out of the box for me to compare. We have both aggreeded it will probably be the 11' cable that I go with, but we are going to check anyway.

I believe you are going to have another issue with the 4.2 steering head. I am going with the Safe-T II NFB because it is the same size as the Safe-T QC that came with your Whaler. It has the same turns (3.0) lock to lock as the Safe-t QC. The NFB 4.2 steering head will give you (4.2) turns lock to lock (more leveage), but has a bigger head size. I have the wood side console and my space under it is limiting me to the origanal size head.

Good Luck,
Paul

Hi Paul,

I was able to get a good deal on the 4.2 kit so I went that route. Do you think I'll run into the problems you mention since I am replacing all steering components?

Thanks,

Gerrit

Got the boat back and started to take the interior out. Looks like the cable is 10.5' so I'll try to exchange my 10' for an 11'. Lots of rusty bolts/screws holding the steering assembly onto the console but hopefully I'll have it stripped by tonight so I can start sanding and removing the old varnish.
