I really thought I'd make it thru the season w/o engine issues.....

I have a 2004 Nissan 25hp 4 stroke that has served me well over the last couple of years. When I took it out today I got up on plane no problem and was running high rpms when at about 2 minutes, the engine started to labor - almost like a lurching sensation - up and and then down on the rpms. I throttled back to idle and started a again with the same results - about 2 minutes and then laboring. It has repeated each time I've tried to take her out.

Here are some particulars which may help:
1. The engine has sit for a month without starting
2. Last time I used it I pulled the fuel line and ran it dry before I put it on the lift (which I do every time I store it)
3. I've used Stabil religiously throughout this season.

Would appreciate any troubleshooting tips or recommendations. I'm on vacation for a week and the last thing I want to do is put her in the shop!

Thanks,

Denny

Sounds like a fuel problem to me. I would try cleaning all of the inline fuel filters and if you have a water seperator change the filter on it. Possible trash in the fuel line that is restricting the flow at times.

Just a guess, but it sounds more like an electronic problem to me. If it was fuel it wouldn`t run wide open at all, and wouldn`t be repetitive. Check all your connections.

Well, had a guy come out yesterday and the carbs had some junk in them which he cleaned out but also found out that the fuel enrichment assembly was bad. I got the part this morning and the guy came back out first thing and got her going. Running better than it has I've had her.

The really neat thing about this situation was the mechanic I found came out to the boat at a nominal charge (25 miles one way) he worked on it tirelessly that afternoon and then came back first thing the next day at no charge to finish it up. He said he wanted to get me back on the water ASAP because I was on vacation and the weather was gonna be beautiful.

Found a good boat doctor who makes house calls at a extremely reasonable price and got back on the water.

Not a bad day afterall.....
