I've done all the reading from past threads on Transducers and especially like the 1/4 plate glued to my most beloved transom. I wasn't happy about drilling. However, this Humminbird unit has a connector which is pretty big and needs a min of 5/8 hole to pass through. I'm going for a position about 15" out on starboard side but this 18' Dauntless is all curvy with ribs which could cause turbulence. The only flat area is directly behind the engine.
Okay so heres my questions: How do I run this wire, any secrets? I could go up and over the transom (Ugly) and down somehow past the oil tank or ...... feed up the self bailer tube and through a small flap I'd cut and seal in the very accessible soft pipe. The worst that can happen is to replace this drain pipe. I guess I'm answering my own question. Will this rig have some effect on bailing/flooding etc that I'm not seeing.
Pulling it through the hull is a snap it's just getting it back in the boat is the mystery.
Anyone else run this beast of a wire though a 2001 Dauntless and positioned the sensor?
Thanks, I followed your example and into the hull via the cable boot which seems clean enough a solution for now. Hopefully, one of these weeks this 3M 5200 will finally cure.
Now, anyone got ideas on seat back video screens? I'd hate the kids to miss their video games whilst out in the fresh air. ;-0
I was pretty happy with the install and seeing fish made my reluctant novice fisher-kids desperate to drop a line... with success (photos).
I used some of that exterior trim plastic wood (solid white plastic) from Home Depot about 3/4" thick to mount the transducer with the 5200 glue.
Water trial day today and the sonar image was terrific even at speed but now I have this "jet ski" plume out the back of the boat. It isn't soaking anyone but it looks mighty odd.
Any fixes or suggestions? Is this normal?
It is the angle of the tranducer? I think it's the hole through the mounting bracket making this happen. Maybe mounting it on the thicker block took it too far into the water stream. (just guessing)
