I got my 1976 15' Whaler home today and need the following:
Mahogany center cap for the steering wheel.
Wiring diagram for the lights.
Advice on where to get Desert Tan colored paint for the interior.
Replacement decals.
Material to use for gelcoat repair.
Thanks for your help.

The center cap of the five spoke "destroyer" stainless steel wheel was actually made of teak, though any wood could be used. Replacement center caps are available form chandleries like West Marine. The diameters are not all the same so take a careful measurement.
Any paint store can color match paint to the Desert Tan gelcoat. Spectrum color is one good source for color matched gel coat for Boston Whalers. You want Desert Tan, 1972-1993 for any interior work and Lt. Grey, 1972-1984 for any exterior hull work.

Replacement decals can be ordered from the authorized Whaler decal producer, Magic Brush, or any Whaler dealer. It is easier to just call Magic Brush.

boydog,
I recommend you spend a little time looking around on this site.
There is a generic wiring diagram in the download section.

There is also a wiring diagram for the lights for other models in the article section.

I too will set up a personal page. My goal is to give my three girls the experience I had growing up with whalers that my grandfather owned. I am looking forward to working on my newly aquired 1979 15' sport. I do have an question to start, does anyone know what the metal piece through the inside of the bow is called. It is located above the bow hatch and below the bow lights. I would describe it as a spit or as cleat of sorts. Half of this piece is broken off and I want to see if I can replace it.
Thanks,
Jeff

thanks guys for all the info is a great help. my first whaler was a 68 13' grew up in it until my dad and sister crashed into the jetties at Destin in a bad storm, no one was hurt and the 13' was destroyed but the pieces were floating everywhere, my father drove to Pensacola that afternoon and bought a 1972 16' Montauk with a 65 Evinrude and we had that boat up until 1990.
I want my little girl who is 11 now to grow up in a whaler as I did and felt the 15' was a perfect starter for her (plus I think it and the mid to late 70's Outrages are gorgeous/sexy hulls)
my new purchase is a 1976 15' Sport with a 1995 Johnson 70 all the mahogany was replaced with plywood and painted white (ugggglllyyy!!!) the hull and engine are in good condition, few knicks and scrapes, I am going to repair all knicks, repaint inside and out and replace all the plywood with a mahogany kit from Nautical Lumber.
too late to0 make a long story short!!
will keep you guys updated!
thanks

Jeff, if I am intrepreting your question correctly, I believe what you're asking about is called a "Norman pin".

have looked at all the wiring instructions here but what I need I dont see, it appears that the wires from the bow light run down the inside of the hull on the port side and exit right at the stern light and go to the electrical block. problem is the wires are not sticking out of the hull, question is can i fish new wires back to the bow? is there a tube the wires run in or what?
thanks

The navigation light wiring on the small Whalers is very simple and easy to work on.
The wiring to the bow light on a 15 footer does not run inside the hull, it runs under the rub rail insert. Pull the black rub rail insert out of the rub rail receiver track and you will see the "zip cord" that Whaler used.
This lamp cord runs to the stern where it is drilled through the hull to a junction block (and sometimes, in later models, a circuit breaker as well).
From this junction block wiring is fed to the console where the light switch is.
The wire Whaler used is not the greatest. The best duplex wire is made by ANCOR but their 16 gauge duplex is sheathed and far too fat to fit within the rub rail insert. I found an excellent substitute is ANCOR's 16 gauge speaker wire which is fully tinned but not sheathed. It fits nicely within the rub rail insert and should last many more years that anything Whaler ever used.
