Well guys and gals, I've been looking for a little bit bigger boat for a while. The Montauk is about right but a little cramped for space and storage for me. I also considered the Dauntless. I've looked at quite a few and i have decided to head down the road tomorrow to test ride a 16' Mckee center console. It's a 2001 with a 2005 Merc 90 carbed engine. If all goes well I should be pulling it home Monday am. I'll keep the whaler or give it to my sons but it will still be in the family and I'm sure I'll still use it every now and then. It's the greatest little boat I've ever been in.

Doesn't sound like you are jumping ship, but expanding your options. I had a McKee one time and it is a good boat.............heavy as hell.........not very friendly when it comes to rough waters, but a good boat.

WHOA, Moose, thats about the same as getting a divorce from you wife, and telling her you want to date once in a while. I don`t think that will work out.

Are you going to start a "McKee Central" website?

Rich,
I already divorced once and I don't at all want to date her. We're friends now and that's enough. She's also a good friend of my current wife.
Tom,
I can't figure out what to use to get the "white out" off my monitor so I don't think there is a website in my furure.

Moose have no fears. I bought a GW because I was looking for a good boat for the right price. I couldn't locate a BW cuddy for the right price. I'm looking for a BW 9'-11' to toy around with. I guess I "jumped ship" too, but it doesn't mean I still don't love and want a BW. I will own another.........

There are a lot of good boats out there. But if you want to restore one, go with a quality boat that was expensive when new like Whaler, Bertram, classic SeaCrafts, Albin, etc. (I types etc. becuase I can`t think of any more.) It costs the same to restore a cheap boat but if you decide to sell, you will really get burned. (my experience) When it comes to boats in the 11-14 ft. range, Whaler has a lock on it.
My opinion

Well, I left Lafayette at 6:15 am Sunday and headed down I10. I drove thru Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and into Georgia. I called the owner and he gave me directions to his place. I looked over the boat and decided I wated to give it a water trial but wanted to check all the paperwork first. Then he tells me he doesn't have it regestered in his name and doesn't have a title for the trailer. I searched for and found the phone number of my notary back home and asked a few questions. He said just get a bill of sale on both and head back. I tested the boat in the Chattahouchee River. What a beautiful place! It ran fine and handled well and did all the things I wanted it to do. It has all the room and configuratoin I want. It just doesn't excite me like my whaler does. We concluded the transaction and I hooked it up and headed home. 965 miles later (round trip)I arrived back home at 1:15 am Monday. Yes I'm tired! My notary found that trailers are not titled in Georgia and all I need is the bill of sale and a copy of the owner's driver's license to title it in Louisiana. haven't dealt with the wildlife and fisheries yet to see how hard it is going to be to register it here.
