I just bought my first Whaler, a 2008 130 Sport with the 40 hp, comfort package, bowrail and suntop, which my wife fell in love with as soon as she sat in it. I haven't picked it up yet and it won't be ready for a few weeks. I have to admit I am somewhat nervous due to the fact that I have never ridden in it and based my decision only on the reputation, reviews, and word of mouth regarding the boat. After reading the posts here it seems that I made a decent choice.

I do have a couple of questions if anyone can help. Will I be able to pull a a child or adult on a single tube (no skiing, just tubing)? Is it true or just rumor that if I don't have a Mercury dealer perform the winterizations and oil changes, that I may void my 3 + 2 warranty?

Any other advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Not sure about the warranty being voided, but just ask the dealer about it. As far a using the boat for tubing, you shoudl have no problems as I have seen many 13 pulling tubes and sleds. Welcome to the world of Whaler and please create a personal page and post some photos when you pick her up. Smile

not sure on the warranty either, you'll have no problem towing a tube though, as far as choosing a Whaler ? why would you choose anything else ? You can really blast around in the 13, a really "FUN" boat. Welcome Aboard !

I have a 2008 130 Sport with a 40hp 4 stroke. I have added the comfort package, bow rail, swim ladder and platform, and a doel fin to help the boat plane at 15 mph instead of 18mph. You can pull a tube alright. And you should be able to pull a 180lbs man on a ski. A 250lbs man might be a stretch.

I rarely can run WOT on Barnegat Bay because of the chop. The 40hp is a good match for the boat in my opinion. I have no regrets with this boat; Pound for pound the most fun you can have on a boat without a cabin Wink

Thanks for the info everyone, it's great to hear from people who own one. It kind of takes the edge off wondering what it's going to be like the first day on the water. I'm glad I have found this site.

I could not agree more. And you can see for yourself (below) the boats I've owned in the past. The thing that would make it perfect in my mind would be a direct-injected 2-stroke motor. But that's just my opinion and many others (if not most) would disagree.
