I have a classic Boston Whaler 13. I was wondering if anyone knew how to figure out what year it was. I know the engine is a 1973 Evinrude because of the Model No. Please Respond!

Thanks

According to the picture you posted that model with the 15" transom went up to about 1972 1/2. The number is probably stenciled on the inside of the transom right below the motor mount. It might have been painted over. If you find the number we can tell you what year it is. Good luck.

Yeah, I found it. The last two digits are 74 and i know for a fact the engine is a 1973 due to the model number... Thanks

Robbie,
My 1968 has a stencil # 24903. That 74 does not designate the year. Look at the bar at the top of the page. Click on "articles." Go to hull identification information. It will have a list of stencil numbers and tell you what year it is.

moose,

In 1972 they started the HIN metal tag which included the year in the last 2 digits.

Look at the article you mention above and then look at where the 1972 models start.
http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...icle_id=61

1972 and later have the HIN metal tag (or embossed in the hull) and also a Stencil number up to approximately 1996. After 1996 they did away with the Stencil number and just use the HIN...

The HIN usage started in 1972 but the Whalers did NOT use the aluminum tag back then, they had the HIN embossed into the gelcoat during lay-up.

Exactly. Just to clarify the boat Mr. Whaler owns looks to have a 15" transom.

Please reread my post above...

The metal tag was also dropped on many models around 1996 when Whaler starting embossing the numbers in the transom again....

Robbie,

What is the stenciled number? Where is this photo of the boat you are said to have posted?

If you have a 1974 model you have a "Sport 13" not a "130 sport". The 130 Sport was not made for several more decades.

Thanks for the link John.

That is definitely not a 1974 Sport 13. It has the full width splashwell and the white one-piece rub rail which makes it a 1970 (*maybe* 1971) or earlier.

The "smirked" hull came out in the summer of 1971 with the wrap-around splashwell. 20" transom and Desert Tan interior followed the next year.
