Don't forget that the USCG (aux) gives a FREE vessel safety check for all boats. It's a great way to find out if you have everything in order on your boat, it's free, no report is ever made or info. given to law enforcement, if you pass, you get a sticker that says your boat has been inspected and meets the regs. if you don't pass, they give you a list as to why you did'nt, then you just get what you need, call them back, and they give you the sticker. they come to you, or you go to them, if your on a trailer, thats ok, they inspect out of the water as well. The inspection sticker is not a gauranteed "out of jail" card but, if law enforcement see's the sticker, they know that the boat passed the USCG aux. inspection, and MIGHT not board you hunting for violations. Just contact any USCG office near you. BE SAFE OUT THERE ! the inspection only takes about 15 minutes, they just look at equipt. they won't tear apart your boat, have your boat registration handy.
