I am curious, when I bought this 13 dauntless I was actually looking for a 130 sport, I didn't know there was such a thing as a dauntless. Now that I have it I wonder what makes the sport so much more popular than the dauntless, I am new to whalers but the hull design of the dauntless seems to me to be better for rough water, and I like being able to walk down both sides when fishing, and I have to say I am generally impressed with Boston Whaler, well thought out, attention to detail, high quality materials, and workmanship, whats not to like.
I have had several 13 footers over the years. I like the looks of the Dauntless, but I`m not as sure if it is as stable at rest as the 13 footer is. I have never been in a Dauntless, so i`m asking you for your opinion. I wouldn`t mind owning one.
I bought this dauntless 13 because I wanted a boat I could tow down to Fl. in the winter without having to have a truck to tow it, but big enough to fish the intercoastal, and some of the small bays, this one seems to fit the bill, boat motor and trailer weigh 1000 lbs., and with that 50 merc. on their I can get off the water in a hurry if I have to. I am 6'1" 210 lbs. and I can walk around no problem it is a very stable boat, at 13'9" in length with a 6' beam it is a big 13'. My only complaint so far is the console and seat are too low and too close together, but some of that I can fix and the rest I can live with.
django,
Like Rich, I have never been in a Dauntless. It's longer and wider than my 13 sport and you say it is stable when you move around in it. I have been alll over the bayous and bays around here and even 5 miles out into the gulf with an eye on the weather. I've been in some pretty nasty chop and never felt in danger. The boat can take much more than I can. If you don't mind a little bouncing you should be able to fish wherever you want to. The only problem is that the boat tends to give me a bit too much confidence and I want to go where I probable shouldn't.
You'll love it.
