Member Posts: 8 Comments: 0 Joined: 09/06/08	Hi, I'm new here and relatively new to Boston Whalers, what I have found out so far I am very impressed with, I have a 1995 Dauntless 13 with a 2000 50 HP merc great little boat, so far has been exactly what I needed for my purposes, my question is this the motor seems to run great when I get up past idle but idles pretty rough, I pulled the plugs today and they all seem oily to me, is there an adjustment on oil mixture or is that automatic?

You should be using a "Carbon Guard" (BRP) not sure what Merc call's the fuel additive or at least some "Sea Foam" in the fuel tank. Gasoline quality is poor with new blended fuels today, specifically "Alcohol" which is now added. mw

If there's a bad fuel line or air leak somewhere in the fuel system, the aerated fuel can cause the oil pump to inject more oil resulting in wetter plugs and smokier operation. Dave - 1983 Outrage 22

Member Posts: 1607 Comments: 9 Joined: 05/09/07	You can still have prime with an air leak though. My old engine ran fine, just smokey and oil on the plugs. I replaced all the fuel lines (they were due anyway), and in the process solved the air leak. Motor ran much cleaner and the plug oil issue was solved.
