I need help on what size propeller to choose for my 2008 Yamaha 90 HP. It is going to be mounted on a 1981 Montauk.

The boat will be used for fishing in and around Boston Harbor. No water skiing, two to three people with equipment, cooler in front with a couple beers, battery in console.

I would like the size for a stainless and aluminum propeller. I hope I gave enough information. This is a great site for getting information.

OK, well let's think about this. The 2008 Yamaha 90 HP four stroke has a 2.31:1 gear ratio, a 6000 RPM redline and uses a 4-1/4" diameter hub propeller.

Furthermore, we know from long experience that a classic Montauk with 90 HP is capable of 42-46 MPH, give or take.

This suggests that a propeller with about 19" of pitch is going to fit the bill. Looking at the readily available propeller models with the intermediate 4-1/4" hub we can make some recommendations based on what has been proven to work well.

If you want a Yamaha prop, try the 13" x 19" Painted Stainless Steel Prop or the 13-1/4" x 18" Performance 3 Series (essentially a Stiletto Advantage.)
