Got a call from the local marina the other day. The mechanic said the guy who bought my 17 Montauk brought it in to have the engine checked. He couldn't believe it was the same boat. It had a big hole in the side, all kinds of growth on the bottom, the bimini top was mangled and the boat was a complete mess! I felt sick hearing this considering I just sold the boat about 3 months ago! I almost feel there should be a background check before selling a Whaler to someone Angry

Get his name and we'll put him on the Non-invite list for next summers festivities.

Some people don't deserve the oppurtunity to own a Boston Whaler, they have no "Whaler" Pride.

I understand it's his boat but I think of all the work I put into that boat. Just makes me mad. I should have known when he drove up and his truck was a complete wreck. I don't think there was a spot on his truck that wasn't wrecked!

Ah - one of those trucks thats been hit every where including the glovebox.... Shock Dead giveaway....

I am truly sorry this has happened - You put so much love and care into these boats and when you see it just destroyed it breaks your heart... even though its not yours anymore... I totally get it.

Hey,
I cant think of a reason that a "dream boat" like your whaler could be treated in such a manner.
Either a break up happened or most likely someone is borrowing the boat and is being very vindictive about the owner..Angry
In any event what can you do?
Except to feel sympathetic and perhaps attempt to rescue it in making an offer to by the boat back at a reduced rate..in regard to the present condition that it proves to be in..
Just my two cent worth..
You have my sympathy Harley .Wink

Maybe there is a moral to the story...... Never, ever sell a Whaler, just buy another one. Smile

Yeah that was the guy. I should have sold the boat to you. The guy has no clue about boats. I dropped the boat off to him and he took it out for a ride. I got a call 30 mins later from him asking where the drain plug was as he was taking on water......FAST! Amazing that he nver performed a check of the baot prior to launching....Shock. I did get another boat....A 20 ft Grady. Looking for a 11' Whaler to toy with.

I think I like this idea. RLWhaler has a fleet -- why can't we all? I own 2 right now and was planning to sell the Montauk in the Spring. I think I am going to screen potential buyers to make sure they are worthy of owning her. When John (TexasOutrage) bought his Haynie bay bought the builder made him go out fishing with him before he would build him a boat. Maybe I should make every prospective buyer go out with me and have them run the boat so I can see how much experience they have.

I think I am going to need a bigger garage! Grin
