I'd like to know what the actual sales to listing rate is on ebay. You see boats relisted over and over, many final bids don't reach the reserve, and then there are the stiffs, the renegs, justifiable backouts on bad boats, and the pulled listings.

That is a very rare Menemsha. I saw it out there when originally listed. Not my type of rig but for someone looking for one it sure looks to be in good shape.

Rare boat, becuase it was not popular when new, and not in great demand now, except by a few admirers. Starting price way too high, who knows what the reserve is. Motor is old probably not worth more than $800- $900. You can`t buy a boat at that price and restore it.
I just sold my 18` Bass Boat on E-Bay from the first relisting. Sold it to a second chance buyer for $149 less than reserve. Had over 14 bids, but started the listing at $1000. Embarrassed to say what I sold this barely used since restoration boat for. Took a big loss, but hey, I had fun restoring her. Don`t expect to sell any boat for top dollar the days, but Whalers bring more than most.
The most annoying thing, although I didn`t realize at the time, was the 15 or so E-mails I received through E-Bay, asking countless details on the boat and the restore job. I answered all of these in detail, even giving those who asked, my phone number. I noticed that most of the ones who e-mailed me didn`t bid, but called me the day after the auction ended, and offered to buy the boat, but probably for very little. Fortunately the highest bidder bought the boat on second chance and will be picking it up tomorrow.
I sold the boat becuase I didn`t use it, I use my 13`Whaler. I didn`t want to see it sit in my yard unused, and my Vibe can`t tow it. The money i got sure didn`t improve my lifestyle, but hey, I`mGrinGrin

Such as life brother. Nobody wants to spend money nowadays but time will get better. Glad you kept that Whaler, she sure is a beauty.

Binkie I agree with Serge -- sad to see them go at a loss but chalk it up to an educational experience. You can not find that kind of knowledge in a book or class. Money well spent in my opinion.

It all evens out. 25 years ago I restored a 25` Bertram, fished it hard for 3 years, and sold it at a 5k profit. A big profit back then. I`ll keep the 13 untill I `m too old to remember where the ramp is. LOL
