Can't tell you much about the twins on an Outrage, but I can do nothing but offer praise for the ETEC motor! Grin

I was seriously considering a 25 last winter. I did a lot of research on motors, and I couldn't find any in the 140-150 HP range with 20" legs that were available with counter rotation. That, along with the price of fuel, made me decide to stick with my 22 and a 225 Johnson/Suzuki (aka Johnzuki) 4 stroke.

I am looking to put the 150 on my outrage restoration. The only complaint I have ever heard was from a guide down in Port Aransas. He was a former Yamaha guy and bought a 200HO for his new boat. At 300 hours he has had more issues with that motor than any he has owned before. He is going to go with a Yamaha again on his new rig. I still plan on going with the eTec -- he runs a bunch of hours and I will not put 300 hours on my boat in 4-5 years. The warranty will still be good and when it runs out I will get a new one.

Sounds like a good option. What engines are on the boat now?

I repowered my 25' last year with twin 150 Yamaha four strokes and have been very satisfied. I had a local boat builder raise my transom from 20 to 25 inches so I could run counter rotating props.

I just put a 75 hp e-tec on my Striper that I've had since '82 and I love it.....quiet, economical on both gas and oil, doesn't smoke & starts immediately....had Yamaha's on a Grady in the early 2000's and had nothing but problems!!!!!!!

romd,

Most engine manufactures no longer offer counter rotating engines in the 20 inch shaft length. If you desire counter rotating engines, then you will most likely have to buy 25 inch shaft motors.

The Classic Whaler hulls generally use 20 inch shaft motors for twin applications.
This is the reason that jack plates with a 5 inch rise or raising the transom 5 inches is necessary when using counter rotating 25 inch shaft motors.

I've heard mostly good things about E-Tecs. I often think about repowering my 25 Outrage but I'll have to wait until one of my current motors has a catastrophic failure...Good luck with the repower. Please post the pics and details.
