Sorry I have not posted up any updates, with work, kids back to school and fall coming, I've been spending as much time as I could remaking the console on my nauset. So, I've got the console built, put in tonight and went to reconnect the binnacle controls. I look at my marks that I labeled and for the life of me they seem right, but it's not working. I get them connected and can move the handle from top (idle) to reverse and advance the throttle, but not at all for going forward. When I try to do so, the cables feel as if they are binding very bad, and I get the impression it could crack some metal. I've looked online and cannot find a diagram listing the connections points to check myself against. It's a 1990 Evinrude 88 SPL, please help me if you can. I've checked the link here for the contrls and it seem to be similar to the OMC but mine is all black, no chrome at all.
When I put my new motor on this spring, I had to add a loop to the control cables in the shelf area of the console.
When the cables were run out of the binnacle control and through the hole the angle was too sharp. It was binding up the inside cable. The added loop decrased the angle and allowed better movement.
Thanks for the reply, I got hold of a 'rude mechanic today who told me that the unit needs to be in the full throttle position in forward gear to line up correctly. Tried that and bang in she went. Gonna try to fire her up in the next few minutes.
