Congrats. She looks great.

It appears the boat has a Pate brand fiberglass fuel tank. If you have blended fuel (ethanol 10%), you should replace the fuel tank. Not a big deal, Moeller has 2 different sizes to choose from. Think Cabela's website has a good price.

I would check out the mechanical and electrical areas first. Let us know if you have questions.

I have to pick her up in Maine I will be using her on Long Island... Thanks for the comments so far, keep the feedback coming I love it.

I would love to fix up the wood and put some fresh mahogony on her. Are there are any articles or posts on where I can find the wood and installing, etc etc. Thanks.

Ron Burgundy: I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Richard -

Actually the wood material on a Montauk is teak. When first made, it came from the factory with an oil finish. Smile

If parts of the door frames need replaced, you can buy individual parts. As for the doors, they too can be replaced or repaired.

The bow locker cover is several pieces of teak with cleats on the inside.

The reversible pilot seat (RPS) is also teak.

If it has a pate tank which in the picture it looks like it. You need to change it before use as due to the ethanol in all fuel available on long island will start tearing at the fiberglass and the resin will get sucked into the carburetors. That's what happened to me.

Boat looks to be in really nice condition. A little elbow grease and some TLC and you should have a super nice boat! Congradulations!

Great, thanks, I didn't even realize that about the pate tank. What size Moeller would be best ?

Thanks

also, I'm not sure who posted it, I remember seeing this a while back, but I saw someone's 1987 montauk and he installed speakers in the cooler... any idea where I can read up on how to do that? It looked really cool and saved some space. Thanks again

You probably will want to measure the space first. If you want a better matching tank then the moeller go with a aluminum tank I have mine on order now from KSH Marine they are even coating it white for me so it will look close to how my pate tank did.
