I have the 1970 13ft sport with the original console helm and white plastic steering wheel. I am looking for a stainless steel replacement wheel w/ base and cable spooler that will replace my plastic wheel. Any suggestions/pointers?

I assume you want to keep the original cable and pulley steering.
Have you removed the old plastic wheel? Most likely when you buy a 13" destroyer type stainless wheel it should fit, but I have seen some shafts that won`t accept that stainless wheel. Buy the new wheel with the condition you can return it it if it doesn`t fit, and cross that bridge when you get to it. I don`t know of anyone making modern spooled hubs for pleasure boats, only race boats.

As I understand it, no one can make a production boat w/ cable steering anymore, but there are plenty of old parts around to reconstruct the system - altho I found re-winding it & getting it tight enough is a pain ! Good Luck !

Cap`n Chris, I never had any trouble at all getting the lines tight enough. Did you have a spring or springs in the system? Spring should be pulled out to 1/2 the length.
