I'm a newbie here, and looking into buying a boston whaler boat that will fit my criteria. I live in Maine and I'm looking for a Whaler that can do double duty on the lake and some offshore ocean fishing as well. My max budget is $15000, and from what I've seen, the 80's models of the Revenge seem to fit that criteria.
But I'm new to this, so I'm wondering if a 22' Revenge is overkill for what I need. I guess my question is what is the best Whaler model that matches that criteria?
I definitely want to buy a Whaler, I grew up using my Dad's 13' and I've been hooked ever since.

It's nice to see a fellow Mainer who lives near my area (I'm in Lebanon).
The boat would mostly carry four passengers, two adults and two children. But may need to carry more from time to time.
I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.7 V8 for a tow vehicle.
A cabin would be nice, but isn't really required. The cuddy on the Revenge looked about the right size.
Off shore would be within 1-5 miles for some striper fishing, nothing further out than that.
I would definitely be using the boat in the Spring, and most likely some use in the Fall as well.
My Wife wants a boat for more leisure activities like cruising, water skiing, tubing, etc. Where I want a boat mostly for fishing on a lake or the ocean. All in all, I'm looking for a versitale boat that can do a mix of all that. All I have right now is a 17' square stern Old Town canoe, so I'm looking for a larger boat the whole family can use on the lake and offshore.
Based on my experience on the ocean (near shore) I think a Revenge is a good choice to suit your needs.
It has the open deck and bow for fishing.
The cuddy can hold a porta potty, and gear. I have been told youngsters like to hang out there. With a bimini, windshield connector and side curtains, you get great protection on those raw days we have (like today )
A fellow member, Newt, had a Revenge V20 Walk Through and recently moved up to a Revenge 25. He uses his boat in the same ways you plan to. Hope he can join the discussion.
Another option would be a 80's Outrage 22 center console with some canvas.
