Are the stock bow and stern lifting eyes on a 17 montauk strong enough to lift the boat on a crane launch? Or do I need to reinforce them? I use lifting straps now, but it would be a lot easier for attach the crane to the eyes. Any reccomendations would be appreciated.
When I was stationed in Pt. Pleasant NJ. I lived at a waterfront house with a single davit. It had a steel bar with 2 cables and hooks aft and 1 forward. I hooked the forward one to the fwd eye and the 2 aft to port and stbd and lifted it up and in the water and then up to the bulkhead and on the ground.
No modifications were necessary to the boat. This was done over 2 years.
The boat never had a problem, I had a full fuel tank, but never people during launch.
The lifting eyes worked as designed.
