I bought this last night and drove it home this morning, having two flats on the way home couldn;t help but wonder if I got in over my head. Never done this before, but I love whalers, always wanted one, I think I got a steal, so I went with it. Any advice would be appreciated and used.

congrats on the purchase, looks like a nice 13, not sure about over your head. Unless the entire starboard side is missing, what I can see looks normal for it's age. Some photo's of the inside might help to show what you got. Put a personal page together, then decide if you want to use it as is, or spend time fixing it. Does the outboard run? What does the gelcoat look like on the inside? Any huge holes down to the foam?
It is amazing what you can clean up with soap & water, rubbing compound and wax.
If you love Whaler's, and alway's wanted one, you'll have no problem restoring it. The 13' is a great boat, very "user friendly", and can be fixed in the driveway or garage. I think that it's the "Perfect" first boat to own. It look's to be in pretty good shape for it's age (very restorable), clean her up with a good bath, and let's see what we have, Welcome to "Whaler Central".

No way are you in over your head. With all of the wealth of knowledge the members on this site can offer you it will be a piece of cake. Just remember one very important word during your restoration process.............PATIENCE.............That and don't be afraid to ask many questions.
thanks for the replies, i tried to put other pics up but couldn't get it before i left work... will do monday. The boat looks good in the pic but the inside has a lot of stress cracks and the bow tow hook has been pulled through the hull leaving a hole in the fiberglass and my concern is if water is in the hull. The outboard is a 4cylinder Mercury 50hp and just needs a starter, I'm in the marine business and our mechanic got it running and said it runs great. About the stress cracks... what can i do to fix them...is there a quick cover up or do i need to dig them out, sand and re coat??? Thanks again for the comments I feel better about it. I will post more detailed pics on monday when i get back in the office
The only way to confirm water and how much is to weight the boat. The 13 should be around 300# not including the engine. As for the stress cracks, depends on how bad and where. If there aren't a lot, open them up with a dremel tool and fill, if there are lots of them, you may have to sand and regelcoat or paint. If they aren't deep, I would wash,compound and wax and run the boat, once the bow eye damage gets repaired.
