We have noticed a lot of fuel tanks breaking down. I think it is due to ethanol. Any suggestions on replacement tanks for a 17 Whaler and where to buy?

This is a frequently asked question.
Here is one of several good threads discussing it. Link to Pate discussion

I have a 14 gallon tank red plastic tank which is 44" long, 14" wide and 8" high. It sits from port to starboard right between the console and seat. I use it as a foot rest as well. I can look down and see the fuel gauge on the tank.

im going with a aluminum tank from KSH Marine. Due to my pate tank breaking down and filling the carburetors with resin. I was gonna get the 14.5 gallon F159 Tank that tempo made. But tempo is now out of business(my local marine supply said it). I have a '95 15ft Dauntless about 275 for a custom tank. Compared to 700 for a Pate tank. Pate is also out of business.

You might take a look at what Moeller offers.
Here is a vendor that sells Moeller fuel tanks.
Surplus Unlimited - Moeller Fuel Tanks
Make sure you look through all the pages as there are internal and above deck fuel tanks on pages 3 and 4 etc....

Tempo out of business? Well, I went ahead and ordered up a Tempo 12gal poly tank, that I had my eye on, as the dimensions appear to be a better under the seat fit for my 04 150 sport. {24-1/4" L x 18" W x 10" H with cap}
Update No Tempo Tanks available.

For me I need the closest to 30" L 14" W 11" H. I didn't see anything around that would be close. I wanna stay as close to 15 gallons if possible. Would if be bad to use a below deck tank above deck?

As Tom Clark and another member pointed out, Mirax still makes aluminum above deck tanks if you don't want plastic.

Just replaced my 20 gal. Pate with a 26 gal. Moeller. As mentioned in the other thread, it needs to be set back about four inches in order for the filler cap to clear the seat. Cabella's had a good price on it.

The twin 12 gallon aluminum tanks by MIRAX are the creme de la creme of fuel tank options for the 17 foot Montauk. They are not cheap but are more versatile than a single and much more durable than plastic.

Two questions: Which Moeller Model fits best for 84' 17 Montauk.
Additionally, I have two red rubber pads which appear to be Rivetted to the floor of the boat. Does this tank fit over those, or will I need to take them up? My concern is that the gelcoat below those pads will be a different color due to fading. Anyone ever taken these up? If so, do just drill through the rivet?

I understand that pate plastics is out of business. and have been talking with moeller they say they will reproduce the pate tank in plastic set up fee will be aprox. $400. any one interested if i order them? Interesting sue at twin cites says that she heard that pate went out of business due to a truck runnin through there shop not due to there tanks breaking down.
