I just bought a used merc 40, 1990, 4 cyl, 2 stroke , o.b.
I have rebuilt the water pump and ready to re assemble.
1 .What is the torquue psecs for the prop nut
2. does merc use a washer in between the prop and nut ?
Don`t know anyone who torques prop nuts. Just put a short piece of 2x4 between the prop blade and the cavitation plate, and tighten it, kind of like you tighten a lug not. Im sure a washer is involved.
After you snug the nut down and put the cotter pin in, use it a few times and then check if the prop slides on the shaft. If it does, take the cotter pin out and tighten the nut a little more and re-install the cotter pin. You should be good to go then.
