Is there anyone running the 90 HP Optimax on a 17 Montauk? I am wondering about the additional weight and how the boat performs in comparison to running other motors of similar size. I currently run a 1989 100 HP Mercury and it works well, but I cannot find the specifications for it to determine how much difference there is between the two motors.
A 1989 Mercury 100 weighs about 340 pounds according to NADA. The 90 HP Optimax weighs 375 pounds according to Mercury's website. That is a relatively small 35 pound difference and one I would expect to have little, if any, effect on your boat's performance.
