I'm planning on adding a "Keel Guard" to my 2005 170. Has anyone else done this? How close does the White come to the color of the hull? I'm also trying to decide how long I should get it?
In looking at their color selection, I would suggest almond. While white would blend, it will show the wear and any discoloration in the years to come. Almond would mitigate this a bit yet not draw your eye to it, compared to say, blue.
As for length, if you have keel rollers I would go from below the lowest "lip" of the smirk and back to a spot 4-6 inches before the roller. If no rollers, I suggest a strip 5' long. Before attaching, tape it in place (with the backing still attached) and stand back and observe.
While they say not to install a keel guard if you have rollers, I have read about one install where the owner trimmed the aft end and tapered the material (softer angle). No problem with adhesion. Just don't install it so the roller sits on the keel guard.
