13' GLS with heavy motor, Front half out of water??
If anybody can Help with their opinion or experience that would be great. I am looking at a 1996, 13' GLS that has an extremely heavy 250 pound 40 hp suzuki motor on the transom. The motor is so heavy that half of the boat sits out of the water while at the dock. Has anybody had similiar situations with any possible solutions? By any chance does anybody know the maximum rated weight for these 13' transoms?
!3 ft. Whalers are rated for 40hp. The boat was designed for motors of about 120 lbs. Its the weight of modern 4 strokes that is the problem, The boat probably porpoises like a bucking bronco.
The engine is heavy for that hull but many others have done it so there may be some other issues too. Have you tried relocating your battery and fuel tank forward. I have heard of some people adding weight to the anchor locker to balance the boat out as well.
Do you have any pictures to share of the setup now so we can see how she sits?
I received the pictures of the setup last night. Basically the owner has installed a Panther 4" motor extension between the hull and the Motor. Im sure that it doesnt help. The gas tank and battery have not been moved foward yet . I think we are going to try that one today. I wish I could find more information about the rated weight on the transoms for these 1994-2000 hulls. All I can find is the rated HP, which is 40. There is only a 5 pound difference between the 2s and 4s for the stock Mercury engines that came on these boats.
